Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Interpret detailed design and construction schedule for onsite steel supply requirements
  • Access detailed design and fabrication scheduling software and correctly identify onsite fabrication stages and/or modules
  • Identify type, thickness and grade of major steel items to be used for site fabrication and assembly operations
  • Identify schedule requirements for availability of steel items for fabrication

Element: Integrate steel storage with onsite fabrication and assembly
  • Plan or review layout of steel stockyard and take into account available space, quantities, steel types, and standard dimensions of steel items and scheduling requirements
  • Ensure steel items are marked to indicate grade and schedule requirement
  • Inspect steel items for mill scale, and supervise removal where required
  • Arrange for any required protection of steel stock before stowage
  • Ensure steel items are stowed in an order consistent with the schedule or master plan

Element: Supervise preparation of steel items for fabrication and assembly processes
  • Plan steel stock release schedule according to nesting strategy, fabrication, and assembly schedule requirements
  • Identify and allow for required steel stock preparation time
  • Manage steel stock storage and release during prototyping and identify any required adjustments to the stock release schedule.
  • Manage rolling of plate for straightening and removal of residual stress

Element: Adjust steel supply for schedule progress and variations
  • Monitor design variations for changes to large steel item requirements
  • Monitor master schedule and module or stage sub-schedules for changes to steel requirements
  • Adjust steel stock storage and release schedule based on variations and monitoring undertaken

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.

Observation Checklist
